OK boys and girls, it's time for some mental gymnastics............does anyone know if the muffler/silencer for a late 60s BSA B44 Victor Special has a cut-out on the backside for the right hand shock absorber?
Like shown in the pics below.....
The reason I ask is that of the pics I've seen of these, I've never seen a cutout, plus on top of that, all the pics have been of the front side where the heat shield is screwed on.
There's one for sale and could be mine if this isn't some aborted bodge that will blow up on Bodger like a trick cigar.
Answers as always on a bit of paper behind the loo at the station.....
If memory serves me, that one looks correct. It also looks to be the right length. I have one off of a B-40 (350 cc) BSA that is shorter overall. The cut-out serves to keep the muffler from sticking out too far of course. That one seems to look like it's in fair shape.
ReplyDeleteCheers Larry, kinda what I thought the answer might be.
ReplyDeleteFrom pics I have, the cut out seemed to be right where the right rear shock would be and as you say, so it doesn't stick out to far.
Other than some small scrathes and a small dent, it looks to be in really good shape and the price so far is a steal.....so far!
As far as length etc, there was a question about B44 mufflers on a BSA forum concerning sound and one of the things mentioned was that mufflers were different size after a certain year. That and the cut-out got me to wondering about all this "correctness". Not being a rivet counter, just needing the right parts.
