Bit of a disappointment I know, but it's true.....
For the past few days, Bodger has not been doing the usual routine at the Postal salt mines, but instead, has been in a three day class being taught and certified....no....not that type of certified....on how to be a "Facilitator" which is just a posh name for instructor or teacher.
Me myself along with two other mailmen types, a window clerk (the one in the Post Office you buy stamps from) and a office supervisor are being trained on how to teach/instruct classes. Those latter two for office type jobs, and us other three to be.....wait for it......Driver Safety Instructors!!!!!!!!
Yes, yes, we will instruct new people on the proper, Postal, way of driving Postal vehicles in the delivery of the mail which must get through no matter what.
The first day was spent covering basic things such as setting up a classroom, class materials, effective use of time. The next two were spent doing more of the same along with speechifying or actually giving a short presentation to the class on an aspect of the job.
Needless to say, it's easier to spout drivel and gibberish on a blog or a forum than it is to stand in front of people and do it all day long AND keep them awake as well as informed.
But did it I did and I am happy to say that I was certified (and about time too I hear from some of you) as a "Facilitator." What's next????

Congratulations on being certified. Now does this mean a chance for promotion, or just a chance for more work? Seems where I work it's become an expectation of more work, less pay. We just got hit with several furlough days again.
ReplyDeleteNot complaining too much, at least I'm still working. Hopefully in your case it leads to more money, to spend on BSA parts. Killing time till 7 o'clock when I'll be watching the race bikes kicking up cinders. Nice cool day, should be a good race.
It's on an "ass needed" bais, but basically whenever they get a group of new temporary hires in that need training, the regular instructors or one of the three of us will be gtrainin gon thedriving portion, about a two day process...1 dy classroom, 1 day hands-on.
ReplyDeleteDuring th eetime we're doing this, we're being paid at a higher level, around a $1/hour more, which as you say, equates to more parts and othr toys to be bought.
Plus it looks good as far as credentials and sqaure fillers for other Postal things. Added bonus is that it qualifies us to do additional forms of training courses to pad the resume thing with.
Sorry....strike that second word and makee it "AS" not what it saya there....Thinks to himself...I think no-onee even really noticed...think I got away with it.!)
ReplyDeleteWell you know...when they need your "butt"...they need it.
ReplyDeleteLOL.....good 'un Larry...but, no pun intended or thought of at the moment, that's pretty much the position, Ad Hoc, but as long as they use, it looks good on paperwork and, most important of all, I get paid for it whadda I care?!?
ReplyDeleteEvery bit of paper helps, plus the extra money.... just hope there are a lot of temps getting taken on.
ReplyDeleteI had two days with Honda last week, class room/ workshop training :-( ... Did you know that when you work your way up through their grading system to Master Tech (which last three years), the next step is.... back to basic grade!!! then work you way up over three years! A call to the powers that be tomorrow to sort this out....
kawa
As you say Kawa, every bit of paper helps as it could make the difference between getting a particular job and someone else less qualified being your boss.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think I'd make that call too....to go from grade and work up through three years to only be set back to basic grade again would be a little hard to handle I think.
