Doings in Dundee

In today's edition of The Scottish Sun fishwrap:

http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/news/3817150/Cops-fear-biker-gang-bloodbath.html

For those of you who were planning on a trip to sunny Dundee, this could be a once in a lifetime chance to see mindless acts of violence committed while eating your fish and chips ooooooooooooor another storm in a chipped tea cup....either way, could be interesting to hear the outcome.

As I got the tip from our Scottish correspondent, Kawa, hopefully he can keep us all updated.

I'll have my bag of buttered popcorn at the ready, maybe it'll even hit the news over here with predictable misinformed reporting.

  1. It pisses me off that idiots have to make bad press for motorcycles. I kinda agree with a comment at that link. Let them have at each other if that's what they want, just ship 'em off to the middle of an un-inhabited wasteland somewhere. And leave their bikes and gear behind for someone who'd appreciate them.

  2. Feel the same way about thugs.... give 'em all guns and stick thenm in an arean and tell 'em to have at it. Survivors are then sent to combat hotspots and IF they survive that, they are then thrown in prison 'til they die.

I'm surprised that there's 4000 back patchers (BP) there in the UK. By BP I assume they mean 1%ers such as the Outlaws.

Four hundred maybe, but 4000???? Maybe that's hangarounds, prospects, associates and others looking to fit in COMBINED.....

Still will be interesting to learn the "outcome" of this big to do.

  3. Well, it's 10pm here in Scotland and strangely enough there's no mention of any 'biker gang bloodbath' on the news yet. They're leaving it a bit late, don't you think?
Or as we all expected, there wasn't a grain of truth in the story - well, it was in the Sun!

  4. As another of our Scottish correspondents has just reported, SFA has happened.

Probably a couple of spotty faced oiks showed up and the news media needed a story and came up with that.

Imagine if the News of the World was still around, the headlines would've been fantastic!!!

    Cheers for the update Norman...

  5. To be honest, I don't think anything at all happened, nor was anything planned. Just another made up story in a downmarket newspaper.
As for the number of back patchers, I've been riding a bike in Scotland for 36 years and have only seen them about half a dozen times. In the 80s, I saw the Glasgow based 'Blue Angels' a few times, and there were never more than 3 or 4 of them. Last year, I passed a group of about 6 Blue Angels, the first time I'd seen any for about 25 years.
I also once saw two 'Satan's Slaves' (or so they claimed) about 30 years ago at a bike event. As they were spotty teenagers who barely looked old enough to have bikes, I don't think they were 'real'.
I don't go to big bike rallies or custom shows, where you'd expect to find back patchers, but you'd think if there was a reasonable number then I would have seen them out on the road.
    Bit of a non-story really.

  6. Aye Norman, that's pretty much what I was thinking all along.

When I read the number as 4000 I was thinkking it seemed bollocks. Even my number of 400 was wildly optimistic, but I did think of the hangarounds, and other wannabes who wanted to try and prove something.

Even here where the "HQ" for the Bandidos is, I hardly ever see any at all except at maybe a show of some sort which aren't that often here. If it's a big show, might see 30-40, but thaat's about it.

It's amazing how the media can exagerrate something to the point that soon enough, it becomes a legend of sorts before it really gets going.

Luckily us "responsibel" media types, Bloggers, can be trusted to get to the bottom of it all.

Now, then, where are the keys to the Steve McQueen "Great Escape" Bantam? It's going on the market and the first silly sod.....I mean....lucky bloke who makes an offer of $500.50 or higher in any legal currency can then be the proud owner of a fine piece of faked cinematic history.

    Any takers????

  7. Oh good,if I make it to Scotland I can leave my bullet-proof vest and Tommy-gun at home then. Maybe just my switch blade and brass knuckles...

  8. Don't even need those now Larry.....the ability to detect absurd rantings in the latest edition of the bird cage liner should be more than enough.

And I thought "The National Enquirer" was bad for BS.....not that I read the lame stories of Jo Jo the Monkey Boy or the whereabouts of Elvis' jumpsuit collection.

  9. Speaking of our correspondent in Scotland, Are you still "locked" out of your blog Kawa?

  10. I think Blogger must've changed sommit on the settings that won't let Kawa get on and post.

It's been 5 weeks since the last posting, not even a weekly Friday Bike post.
